Fitting Wrist Guards: A Guide to Protective Gear

Learn how to fit your EvoShield Gel-to-Shell wrist guards for baseball, softball and other sports.

EvoShield Solid Protective Wrist Guards, Pro-SRZ Protective Wrist Guards and Protective Slash Guards offer lightweight protection with Gel-to-Shell Technology, an innovative material that starts flexible out of the package, then mold into a hard shield in just minutes. The 4” Gel-to-Shell shield slides into a 5” neoprene sleeve, and it molds around the wrist and up the forearm to provide a custom fit. This custom-fitting wrist guard offers the perfect protective solution for baseball and softball players stepping into the batter’s box, catchers setting up behind the plate, lacrosse and hockey players enduring slashes to the wrists or pole vaulters who hit their top wrist on the pole as they are completing their vault.

Whether you play baseball, softball or another sport, it is critical to properly fit your protective gear. Ill-fitting gear can result in discomfort on the playing field and lead to potential injury if a foul ball or hard check hits a part of your body that is exposed. All wrist guards are available in four sizes – small, medium, large and extra-large.

When fitting your EvoShield protective wrist guard, account for all necessary materials – the wrist guard shield and the neoprene sleeve. Schedule at least 30 minutes to complete the fitting process, and do not open the foil pack for your Gel-to-Shell wrist guard until you are ready to begin. Before molding your guard, try on the neoprene sleeve to ensure it fits properly. When ready to fit your wrist guard, follow these steps.

  1. Rip it. Open the foil back and remove the 3”x4” Gel-to-Shell wrist guard shield. Gel-to-Shell Technology is air-activated. It will be flexible right out of the package before gradually hardening into a custom-fitting shield.

  1. Wait 30 minutes for the Gel-to-Shell shield to harden. For a true custom fit, limit your movement.
  2. Wear it. After 30 minutes, your guard is ready to see the field. For best results, allow the guard to sit and cure overnight before first use after fitting.
