FAQ
-
Leg Guard System
-
Do the leg guards provide more or less coverage than other catcher’s gear leg guards?
When you connect the upper and lower leg guard together, our leg guard provides more protection than traditional catcher’s gear. The lower leg guards have our patented Gel-to-Shell technology that wraps around the both sides of the leg to give you maximum coverage and protection.
-
What does the “Adjustable fit” mean for the leg guards?
When buying traditional catcher’s leg guards, you are forced to choose a leg guard size that closest matches your leg measurement. In other words, there is no flexibility when it comes to incremental sizing adjustments. This means the gear might not fit 100% to your leg – meaning it might slide around and hinder your performance. Our entire leg guard system is designed with a personalized fit in mind. The lower leg guards are molded to your leg shape using our Gel-to-Shell technology. When you pair the lowers and the uppers, you can adjust the length by as much as two inches – giving you a custom fit every time.
-
How do the upper and lower leg guards fit together?
Velcro on both the upper and lower leg guards fasten together, creating one cohesive leg guard system.
-
Can you use the lower leg guards for protection while hitting?
No. We do not recommend using the catcher’s lower leg guard while hitting. This piece was designed specifically for catcher’s protection. You can shop all of our batter's leg protection here.
-
What makes the EvoShield Pro-SRZ Leg guard system the most premium on the market today?
There is no other custom-fit catcher’s leg guard system on the market today. Our lower leg guards integrate our Gel-to-Shell technology, allowing you to shape the gear to your leg while adding further protection in the form of our Dispersion Technology™ that spreads the force of impact out over the surface of the shield and minimizes felt impact. And, thanks to the adjustable length feature built into the upper leg guards, as catcher’s age, they can simply extend the length rather than purchase new gear each year.
-
Why are there two separate pieces of the leg guards?
There are two separate pieces of the leg guards because the lower leg guards have to be custom-fit to each player using our Gel-to-Shell technology. In order to allow for this custom fit and expanded protected area, the system was developed in two pieces, rather than relying on the traditional one-size-fits-all approach. The lower leg guards come in a foil pack, and you can find fitting instructions here.
-
What makes the leg guards “custom fit”?
There’s more to our custom fit than the Gel-to-Shell Technology featured in the lower leg guards. While that feature alone offers something no other gear can match, the ability to adjust the length of the leg guard system up to two inches means each and every player gets a one-of-a-kind, fully custom fit. On top of the custom fit, the two-piece design allows you to mix-and-match colors, giving you a custom two-tone look with your gear right away instead of ordering a set through traditional customization tools and which typically delays the delivery process.
-
What color options for upper and lower leg guards are available?
The upper leg guards come in five colors and the lowers are available in 11 different colorways – giving you up to 55 potential combinations. You can even order an extra set so you can have that pro home and away look when you hit the field – or if you play on multiple clubs.
-
Should I buy the “leg guard system” or the upper and lowers separate?
You should by the leg guard system. On our website when you click on leg guard system, it has the correct sizes of leg guards. You also get to see what the colors will look like together. If you want to purchase extra colors of the upper leg guards or the lower leg guards, you can buy those individually. The leg guard systems can be found here.
-
How do I fit the leg guards?
Please see our catcher’s leg guard fitting video here.
-
How do I measure my legs for the sizing guide?
In a seated position, with your foot at a 90-degree angle to the floor, measure the distance in inches from the center of your kneecap to the bend of your ankle.
-
Can you attach knee support to the leg guards?
Yes. Most knee support systems in the market can be attached to the lower leg guards. Be on the lookout for the EvoShield Knee Support System in the months to come.
-
What happens if I lose the Velcro toe guard?
You may be eligible to replace the toe guard at no cost. Please reach out to playerfeedback@wilson.com to replace your toe guard.

Do the leg guards provide more or less coverage than other catcher’s gear leg guards?

Chest Protector
-
What makes the chest protector the most premium chest protector on the market today?
Our Pro-SRZ Chest protector is the most technologically-advanced gear of its kind. It starts with an easy on/off Fidlock magnetic buckle that makes suiting up easier and quicker than ever. A moldable abdominal wire allows you to shape the gear to your body. That means no more chest protector bouncing as you move around behind the plate. The baseball catcher’s chest protector includes a NOCSAE protective chest guard which is designed to meet the standard for Commotio Cordis. (Currently required by NFHS and will be required by NCAA effective January 1st, 2021).
-
What is the purpose of the Fidlock magnetic buckle?
To speed up the gear-up time. Our development team added this feature to our chest protector to make it easier for the catcher put on and take off your gear as you go from behind the dish to stepping up to it.
-
Does the magnetic buckle unhinge while playing?
Not when properly buckled. It’s a mechanical buckle that has a magnetic assist, meaning it will not come unhinged while playing.
-
How does the moldable abdominal wire help mold the chest protector to you?
The moldable abdominal wire is strategically placed on the chest protector to hit the catcher at the right place on his/her abdomen. This gives you the ability to shape the wire as close to your body as you’d like, giving you more comfort behind the plate. Looking for more direction? Check out our chest protector fitting video here.
-
What EvoShield Pro-SRZ chest protectors are NOCSAE Certified?
Our Baseball Catcher's Chest Protector – Adult 16”and Intermediate 15” – come with a NOCSAE protective chest guard. This guard is housed in a removable pocket that adheres on the inside of the chest protector. The chest protector worn by itself is not NOCSAE-certified, but when worn with the protective chest guard, will fully comply with the NOCSAE standard for Commotio Cordis.
-
Why does the NOCSAE protective chest guard come in a removable pocket?
To ensure that the protective chest guard is worn as close to the body as possible and in the correct location to provide the proper protection. We also wanted to give the player the option to wear the catcher’s chest protector with or without the protective chest guard, depending on the league requirements.
-
Why not put the chest guard into the actual chest protector?
Our research and development team wanted to make sure that, while giving you the latest protection in the chest guard, we didn’t sacrifice mobility or functionality in the catcher’s chest protector. This design choice gives you unmatched comfort and safety.
-
Can you wear the NOCSAE protective chest guard separately from the chest protector and still comply?
The protective chest guard is the component which is certified to the NOCSAE standard for Commotio Cordis. The chest protector must both be worn with the protective chest guard in order to comply with the NOCSAE standard for Commotio Cordis. Another option would be to purchase the NOCSAE® Protective Chest Guard & Shirt here, which can be worn under any traditional catcher’s chest protector. Simply put on the EvoShield NOCSAE® Protective Chest Guard and Shirt under your favorite gear - then hit the field knowing you've got the game's best protection.
-
How do I fit the chest protector?
Please see our EvoShield chest protector fitting video here.
-
How do I measure my chest for the sizing guide?
